Macon Villages

The Maconnais region lies at the southern end of Burgundy, just north of Beaujolais. This is where France makes a nice transition from the colder north to the sunny Mediterranean-influence south. The wines from Maconnais reflect this shift, showing great structure and minerality, and best of yet, they are affordable. Macon-Village is one of the higher quality appellation in Macon.

Unoaked chardonnay is not new. The French have been making chardonnay without barrels for centuries, especially in the northern and southern reaches of the grape's homeland, Burgundy. In Chablis to the north and the Maconnais to the south, unoaked chardonnay is the norm.

A clear and bright wine with aromas of white flowers, citrus and yellow fruit, smooth and full in the mouth. Typical of this appellation, this white Mâcon-Villages is nicely balanced with real harmony.

Harvest took place in mid September at night and early morning to avoid heat. Good temperatures thanks to a warm and dry August and September. The harvest is brought in to a schedule based on the progress of ripening in the plots. The juice is extracted slowly at low pressure by pneumatic pressing. 100% vinified in stainless steel.

An unoaked Chardonnay will be great with Maconnais cheese, the crisp acidity and minerality is a good match for grilled chicken and fish.
